Rising Star: Constance Loubier
Constance Loubier studied actuarial science in Quebec and earned her MBA from HEC Montréal. After obtaining her ASA designation from the Society of Actuaries, she built a career rooted in client-focused problem-solving – first in actuarial consulting and later as a large account executive at a major insurer.
Today, as assistant vice president of Bermuda reinsurance operations at Fortitude Re, she applies her client-first mindset to complex transactions, collaborating across teams to drive effective solutions. Throughout her career, Loubier has been driven by a passion for delivering tailored solutions that balance financial outcomes, operational efficiency and client satisfaction. She is known for approaching every challenge with curiosity, adaptability and a mindset that seeks to optimise results while fostering collaboration.
Can you start by telling us what inspired your career?
I’ve always had a strong aptitude for maths, which naturally led me to study actuarial science. What really inspired me to pursue this field – and continues to drive me today – is my client-focused mindset. From the beginning, I’ve been motivated by the challenge of finding the best solutions for clients, whether that means delivering strong financial results, navigating complex regulations or improving operational efficiency. That combination of technical problem-solving and client partnership is what I find most rewarding, and it’s been a consistent thread throughout my career.
What elements of your career do you enjoy most and why?
What I’ve enjoyed most has been stepping out of my comfort zone – moving to Bermuda and transitioning into the reinsurance sector. It was a completely new industry and the pace was fast, which required me to learn quickly while building credibility in a relatively young company. I found it incredibly rewarding to contribute to the organisation’s growth from the ground up, while also having the autonomy to drive initiatives and collaborate closely with experienced, senior professionals across the business. That balance of challenge, learning, and impact is what continues to energise me every day.
Can you share an example of a challenge you overcame that significantly shaped your career trajectory?
Changing industries and moving into reinsurance was definitely a turning point for me. It meant stepping into an unfamiliar environment, learning new concepts quickly and navigating complex transactions with high stakes.
The steep learning curve pushed me to grow both technically and in my capacity to drive results under pressure. It taught me how to adapt, ask questions, embrace curiosity and thrive even when everything feels new. Overcoming that challenge strengthened my confidence and shaped the way I approach every opportunity today.
What are your career ambitions? And how will you work to achieve them?
I want to continue learning, growing and making a meaningful impact – for both our clients and Fortitude Re. The reinsurance industry is constantly evolving and, with the fast pace of regulatory change, it’s impossible to predict exactly how roles and responsibilities might shift over time. That uncertainty is part of what makes the work exciting.
I plan to keep embracing new challenges with curiosity, staying open to opportunities to expand my skills and always focusing on delivering meaningful value where it matters most.
How do you stay motivated and continue to learn in such a dynamic sector?
The fact that no two days are the same, and no two transactions are ever alike. Every deal brings a new puzzle to solve, a different client need to meet and unexpected lessons to learn. That variety keeps me engaged, energised and constantly curious. I enjoy the opportunity to dig into complex problems, collaborate with colleagues across functions and craft solutions that are both effective and client-focused. At the end of the day, knowing that my work directly contributes to the success of our clients and Fortitude Re makes every challenge worthwhile.
