ABIR leads the way in talent pipeline investment with returning intern

The Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers (ABIR) has set the mark for private-sector internship programmes on island, welcoming the return of Bermudian intern Amelia Othman as a junior analyst.

Othman interned successfully in the summer of 2025 and made meaningful contributions to ABIR’s policy and regulatory operations.

Othman said, “I am grateful to have the opportunity to return to ABIR as a junior analyst. Last summer introduced me to the world of policy and regulation, and being able to continue developing my skills within Bermuda’s re/insurance industry is incredibly rewarding. I’m excited to build on what I learned and further explore a field that has already had a strong impact on my career path.”

Collin Anderson, director of policy and regulation at ABIR, said: “We are extremely pleased Ms Othman is rejoining the ABIR office this summer. She brings great insight and interest to her work, and her contributions have already had a significant impact. We are confident that the hands-on experience she gained within Bermuda’s globally significant re/insurance industry will serve her well as she embarks upon her future career path.”

John Huff, CEO at ABIR, said: “ABIR congratulates Ms Othman on her upcoming graduation from Brock University where she will receive a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration (with a specialism in International Business).

"ABIR members remain the largest collective contributor to Bermuda's economy, contributing a record $1.2 billion to the economy in 2024, expected to be over $2 billion in upcoming 2025 figures.  ABIR members also continue to build out Bermuda’s future talent pipeline via paid internships (with nearly 100 paid interns last summer) and awarded $1.25 million in scholarships for Bermudian students.”

In addition, for the past six years ABIR has sponsored a free ‘Special Topics in Insurance’ course held in partnership with Bermuda College and the Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science at St. John’s University and this year in collaboration with the Bermuda Foundation for Insurance Studies.
