Sompo hires PartnerRe veteran for CIO role
Bermuda-based Sompo International, the global property and casualty re/insurance arm of Sompo Holdings, has tapped PartnerRe for its new chief investment officer, succeeding Mark Silverstein, who is retiring after an 18-year tenure at the company.
Thomas Leone will join the company in October. Based in New York, he will report to Nicolas Burnet, the chief financial officer at Sompo.
Leone, with over 20 years of financial services experience, joins from PartnerRe, where he served in various roles for 11 years, most recently as chief investment officer. Prior to that, he worked at Genworth Financial for six years as a derivatives trader and at Fidelity Investments for five years as a senior project manager.
Burnet said: “Mark is leaving behind an exceptional legacy and I would like to thank him for his outstanding leadership and many contributions that built a market-leading investments function for Sompo. I am very pleased that his journey with our organisation does not end here. Instead, it transitions into a new phase where Mark has agreed to lead Sompo’s philanthropic efforts.”
He added: “I am excited to welcome Tom to Sompo. The combination of his technical expertise, strategic vision and strong leadership skills makes him the perfect fit for this role. I am confident Tom will further advance our investment strategy to ensure the continued financial success of our organisation.”
