RenRe makes series of European appointments

Bermuda-based reinsurer RenaissanceRe has announced a raft of appointments in its European operations, including the appointment of former Validus senior executive Sven Wehmeyer as chief underwriting officer for Europe and Latin America. 

Wehmeyer was head of portfolio integration for RenRe following its takeover of Validus and was previously Head of International & CEO Validus Re Switzerland. 

Also being promoted is Jodie Arkell, previously global head of specialty, who becomes CUO for UK and Ireland and active underwriter of Syndicate 1458, pending regulatory approval. 

Hugh Brennan has been promoted to global head of underwriting and portfolio operations, having previously served as CEO of RenaissanceRe Syndicate Management.  

Cruttenden is taking over from Brennan at RenRe Syndicate Management, leaving his role as active underwriter and global head of casualty insurance at the firm.

Other appointments include Markus Bassler succeeding Arkell as global head of specialty. He joined RenRe from PartnerRe in 2022. 

Leo Barran becomes  chief counsel for Europe while Angelo Giglio, managing director, Renaissance Europe AG (previously senior vice president, Head of Finance and Business Operations) and Florian Lutz, underwriting manager, Zurich, who was previously Underwriting Director at Validus Re in Europe, were also promoted. 

RenRe’s Group CUO, David Marra, said: “These promotions draw on our deep bench strength to support our scale and European platform operations. I look forward to working with this team as we continue to extend our leadership in Europe and deepen our client and broker relationships across this important region.”
