The Fidelis Partnership enters Asia-Pacific with reinsurance offering
The Fidelis Partnership (TFP) plans to grow its treaty reinsurance business across the Asia-Pacific, establishing a Singapore-based Lloyd’s service company to target fast-growing markets across four major lines.
TFP APAC intends to begin underwriting on January 1, 2027 writing proportional and non-proportional treaty reinsurance across property and engineering, marine and energy, casualty, and specialty lines.
TFP APAC capacity will be provided by Fidelis Syndicates 3123 and 2126 through the Lloyd’s Asia platform.
It will also focus on building long-term partnerships across the region as part of TFP’s wider high-growth markets strategy, the company said.
The business will be led by Bilal Zafar (pictured), who joins from Volante Global, where he was managing director of Volante Emerging Markets, overseeing reinsurance operations across Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and Africa. Zafar has also served as CEO of Volante Syndicate’s Singapore Service Company since 2024.
Zafar will be joined by Song Liu, formerly treaty portfolio director in Volante Global’s Singapore unit. Liu began his career at China Reinsurance Group Corporation, where he ultimately became deputy COO of its Singapore division.
Zafar brings nearly two decades of re/insurance experience, having held senior underwriting and leadership positions in London, Zurich, Singapore and other international markets. He began his career at Swiss Re before becoming a director at London-based investment firm GGH.
Charles Mathias, deputy chairman at TFP, said Asia was a priority within the partnership’s wider high-growth markets strategy, which aims to address complex re/insurance gaps in fast-growing economies.
Charles Mathias, deputy chairman at The Fidelis Partnership, said: “TFP is delighted to be planning to launch TFP APAC in Singapore. Asia is a priority within our wider high growth markets strategy, which recognises the opportunity for TFP to address complex re/insurance gaps in markets that are growing exceptionally strongly.
“Leveraging decades of market experience and relationships across local, regional and global distribution partners, Bilal and his team are perfectly positioned to capture this opportunity, and I’m looking forward to collaborating closely to bring TFP’s proposition to new clients in the region.”
Zafar added: “We are hugely excited to be part of TFP’s highly differentiated capacity, infrastructure, and underwriting capabilities. Our broad suite of products, classes and structures will allow us to support partners holistically, provide bespoke solutions where our clients need them, and help the local (re)insurance markets of high-growth economies become more sustainable and resilient. By building long-term relationships with brokers and cedents in these markets, we are pleased to be part of TFP’s wider strategic ambitions across high-growth markets and look forward to collaborating closely.”
Zafar’s appointment and the launch of TFP APAC are subject to regulatory approval.
