XL Catlin appoints chief property underwriter for Bermuda office
XL Catlin’s North America property insurance business has appointed Mark Flanagan as chief property underwriter in Hamilton, Bermuda and promoted William Volz to Southern California regional underwriting leader in Los Angeles.
Flanagan’s new role as chief property underwriter will involve him managing the underwriting team of XL Catlin’s quota-share and excess property accounts serviced from Bermuda. He reports to Patrick Tannock, CEO of insurance at XL Bermuda.
Before joining XL Catlin in 2012, Flanagan’s career included positions with Jardine Lloyd Thompson and FM Global.
Tannock said: “I am pleased to see Mark assume property underwriting management responsibilities for our Bermuda operation. Given Mark’s strong portfolio management and leadership skills, we are fortunate to have someone of Mark’s calibre step into this role.
“Mark is well-respected within XL Catlin and the Bermuda market. I’m confident that under his leadership the XL Catlin property platform will further enhance XL Catlin’s position as the carrier of choice in Bermuda and globally.”
Volz is relocating to Los Angeles and he most recently served as vice president, property underwriter in New York.
In his new role, Volz will engage both his underwriting skill and property engineering background to assist brokers and clients throughout the western US insure their most complex property risks.
Prior to joining XL Catlin in 2009, he served as an account and loss prevention engineer at FM Global.
