OIL Group appoints general counsel

The OIL Group of Companies has named Matthew Pifer as general counsel, effective December 1, succeeding Theodore Henke who will be retiring at the end of the year.

The OIL Group of Companies is comprised of two member-owned insurance companies serving the energy industry, Bermuda-based Oil Insurance (OIL) and Oil Casualty Insurance (OCIL).

Pifer joins the OIL group from Paul Frank & Collins, a law firm based in Burlington, Vermont, where he served as practice leader of insurance services for the last 20 years.

During the last 10 years he and his firm have provided external monitoring counsel services to the group on a number of complex claims.

Pifer is also experienced with coverage advice, litigation management and insurance and financial regulatory work. He has worked with markets and regulators in London, Bermuda and other jurisdictions worldwide.

Bertil Olsson, president and CEO states: “We wish to extend our sincere appreciation to Ted Henke for his 10 years of stellar service and wish him well in his retirement.

“We are pleased to have Matt join our leadership team. Matt has a strong understanding of our business, our shareholders and the important role that he will play within the Group as general counsel with oversight of the claims functions for OIL and OCIL.”
