Life’s leaders of the future: BILTIR welcomes 18 young Bermudians to internship programme

Eighteen young Bermudians have started out on what could be long and fruitful journeys in the long-term life and insurance sector, as they begin a two month internship programme organised by Bermuda International Long Term Insurers and Reinsurers (BILTIR).

The full-time, paid programme runs until August 20, 2021, with eleven BILTIR companies taking part, including: Athora, Athene, Fortitude Re, Global Atlantic Re, Hannover Life Re America, Legal & General, Resolution Re, Somerset Re, Sun Life, Wilton Re and EY.

Scott Selkirk, chair of BILTIR’s strategy committee, presented an introductory session on the life insurance sector to the university students via Zoom due to COVID restrictions. The interns will participate in networking and educational events, learn about life and annuity products, and explore career opportunities in the sector.

Sylvia Oliveira, BILTIR chair, said: “BILTIR companies offer interesting and well-paid roles in fields such as actuarial, accounting, legal, technology, and investment. We have an impressive group of interns this year who are on their way to becoming the future stars of Bermuda’s insurance industry.”

This year’s interns and participating companies are: Inish Crisson (Athora); Jalen Wales (Athora); Ryann Hollis (Athora); Nadir Young (Athene); Chrysda Smith (Athene); Owenea Roberts (Fortitude Re); Hannah Blyden (Global Atlantic Re); Zariah Franklin-Grant (Global Atlantic Re); Connor Shanahan (Hannover Life Re America); Tyler Kelly (Legal & General); Jordan Etemadi (Resolution Re); Caroline Amaral (Resolution Re); Cameron de Ste Croix (Somerset Re); Bathsheba Jones ( Sun Life); Jasai Burrows (Sun Life); Trae Smith (Wilton Re); Alexa DeSilva (EY); and Sachio Harrison (EY).
