CPCU picks Allied World’s Afford as new ambassador
The Institutes Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) Society International Ambassador programme has selected Allied World Assurance Company’s Rachael Afford to represent international CPCU Society members and candidate members at The Institutes CPCU Society 2017 Annual Meeting, which will be held on September 16 to 19 in Orlando, Florida.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to have been selected as the CPCU Society’s 2017 international ambassador,” Afford said. “I’m also honoured to be representing Bermuda in this capacity for the first time. However, Bermuda is home to a pool of talented and innovative individuals who work in our industry and have earned, or are working toward, their CPCU designations, so I’m sure I won’t be the last!”
Afford is vice president of specialty reinsurance for Allied World, which is located in Bermuda. Her responsibilities extend to over a dozen lines of business, with an emphasis on workers compensation, personal accident and life catastrophe business.
Afford was named one of Bermuda’s rising stars in 2015 by Bermuda:Re+ILS. She actively contributes to Bermuda Women in Reinsurance, which educates and encourages women in the industry.
In response to the growing number of international designees and candidates, the CPCU Society has expanded its presence outside the United States. CPCUs and CPCU candidates not based in the US face different challenges from those who are, including having to learn the material and take the exams in English, which may be a second language for them. The CPCU Society established the Ambassador Program to recognise CPCUs outside the US for promoting the CPCU designation globally and to provide financial support for them to attend the CPCU Society Annual Meeting.
