Canopius hires Peak Re exec to lead China op

Canopius Group, the global specialty re/insurance arm of NKSJ Holdings, has appointed Shibo Zhang as head of the China market, as part of the ongoing expansion of its Asian operations.

Zhang is based in Singapore and will report to Linus Phoon, chief executive of Canopius Asia.

Zhang most recently worked for Peak Re where he was senior vice president of the China Market and prior to this served as general manager at FP Reinsurance Brokers and department head at China International Reinsurance.

Phoon says: “The Chinese market offers significant potential and is a key part of our specialty growth strategy in Asia. Shibo’s underwriting expertise and strong track record in strategic business development will be a great asset in realising our ambitions for profitable growth in the region.”

Commenting on his new role, Zhang adds: “Canopius has a strong and growing reputation in the Asian market as a provider of specialist re/insurance products and I am delighted to take up this role to capitalise on the opportunities that exist for Canopius in China.”
