BILTIR awards $30,000 educational grant to Monument Re intern
Bermuda International Long Term Insurers and Reinsurers (BILTIR) has granted a $30,000 education award to Cyana Burgess.
Burgess is interning over the summer with life insurer Monument Re and will use the money over the next two years to continue studying actuarial science and data analytics at the University of Leicester in the UK.
A former Berkeley Institute student, Burgess graduated from the J. Mack Robinson College at Georgia State University, Atlanta, in 2021 with a bachelor of business administration, actuarial science and finance, with a minor in Spanish.
Burgess thanked BILTIR for selecting her for the award. “I am incredibly honoured and grateful that I have been given the chance to further my educational growth for an even more plentiful career in Bermuda’s reinsurance industry,” she said.
Burgess has previously taken part in internship programmes organised by BILTIR, having spent 2018 and 2019 with Global Atlantic Re, where she was mentored by the company’s President Darryl Herrick.
Herrick, who will also be mentoring Burgess for the next two years, described Burgess as incredibly hard working and intensely driven. “She brings a highly collegial and optimistic attitude to work every day,” he added. “I am so proud of what she has achieved thus far and can’t wait to see her career continue to develop and prosper. Cyana represents the very best of Bermuda.”
BILTIR represents 61 long-term insurance, reinsurance and servicing companies in Bermuda who provide life and annuity products and employ more than 600 people on the island. This year, BILTIR is celebrating ten years of successfully supporting the island’s growing life and annuities market.
