Third Point Re bolsters specialty treaty division

Third Point Reinsurance has announced two further new appointments to its Specialty Treaty division.

Rachael Afford and Melanie Lopes have joined as vice president and underwriter respectively. Both report to Tracey Gibbons, head of Specialty Reinsurance, who joined the company recently.

Dan Malloy, CEO of Third Point Reinsurance Company, Third Point Re’s Bermuda based operating subsidiary, said: “We recently welcomed Tracey Gibbons, a highly respected underwriter, to lead our new division and we are delighted to welcome Rachael and Melanie; they both bring in-depth knowledge and experience that will help us develop and grow this area of business.”

Afford brings over 14 years of specialty experience to Third Point Re. She was most recently Vice President of Specialty Reinsurance at Allied World Reinsurance where she focused on workers’ compensation, personal accident, life catastrophe and other casualty lines.

Afford is also head of the Bermuda Women in Reinsurance (WiRe) Events Committee, WiRe is an organisation dedicated to promoting the professional development of women working in Bermuda’s reinsurance industry.

Lopes was previously an underwriting assistant and catastrophe analyst at AWRE with an emphasis on catastrophe and casualty lines. Prior to this she gained experience at PwC Bermuda and HSBC Bermuda.
