Mosaic targets US growth as it taps Liberty executive

Bermuda-based global specialty insurer Mosaic has hired a specialty markets executive from Liberty Mutual to drive its expansion across the Americas.

Toby Smith will join the company as CEO for the Americas.

Based in New York, he will help drive market engagement and growth across the US, Canada, and the Americas, while overseeing new product development and the company’s major lines; transactional liability, cyber, and environmental liability.

Smith, with over 20 years in specialty insurance, joins Mosaic from Liberty Mutual where he served as chief underwriting officer for North America specialty lines. He previously spent 13 years at Ironshore, where  he collaborated with Mosaic’s co-founders, and five years at AIG.

“Toby is a longtime colleague with an exceptional track record that has seen him build the largest environmental business in the market,” Mitch Blaser, Mosaic’s Co-CEO commented.
