Hannover Re appoints Bermuda MD

Hannover Re has appointed Michael Eberhardt as managing director and chief underwriting officer of the company's Bermuda operation. 

Eberhardt, who was managing director of the company's Australian branch and head of the business centre treaty ANZ, helped to increase premium written in the Sydney operation by seven times during his time there. He relocated to Sydney in 2012 as head of treaty.

In a post on LinkedIn, Eberhardt said: "Businesswise, our premium has more than sevenfolded and we built a fully fledged operation since but none of it would have been possible without an engaged team that supported each other when resourcing was lean, took change as an opportunity and went the extra mile when it mattered - with some fun along the way!"

He added: "I personally look forward to a new chapter developing our P&C business in Bermuda, getting to know the team and partnering with our global client base."  

Mr Eberhardt joined Hannover Re in 2006 in the structured reinsurance division of Hannover Re Advanced Solutions with geographical scope for Spain, Portugal, Latin America and the Caribbean.

A spokesman for the company said: "Under his leadership, Hannover Re has grown to become one of the market leaders in the ANZ region."
