Canopius appoints Swiss Re risk expert Norm Kimber as senior underwriter

Global specialty re/insurer Canopius Group has bolstered its credit risk team with the appointment of Norm Kimber (pictured) as senior underwriter.

With more than three decades of experience across insurance and the public sector, Kimber joins the re/insurer as credit and political risk underwriter, effective Q1 2026. Based in London, Kimber will report to Patrick Sheriff, head of credit and political risk, London.

Kimber will play a key role in strengthening the credit and political risk team and deepening relationships with export credit agencies, multilateral organisations, and other public sector partners.

According to a statement, Kimber has played a pivotal role in facilitating trade, investment and development in emerging markets. “He has built a distinguished career providing insurance solutions that address the credit and political risk mitigation needs of banks, investors and public agencies,” the statement said.

At Swiss Re, Kimber led the sovereign credit and political risk insurance team across the EMEA region since April 2021. Prior to this, he held several senior underwriting roles at Swiss Re, Zurich Insurance Group, African Trade Insurance Agency, the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency and Export Development Canada.

Sheriff said: “Norm brings a wealth of experience and sector expertise that will be invaluable as we strengthen strategic partnerships and further expand our credit and political risk portfolio.
