Willis Re names John Fletcher Bermuda CEO to lead island platform

Willis Re has appointed a seasoned Bermuda market executive John Fletcher to drive business growth and oversee team development in Bermuda as the broker continues to invest in and expand its presence in one of the world's most important reinsurance hubs.

He joins Willis Re from Guy Carpenter, where he most recently served as CEO of Bermuda. He had led the firm’s Bermuda operations since 2018 and relocated to the island in 2013 to head its property retrocession team.

Fletcher will oversee the execution of strategic plans aligned with the company's objectives, while managing operational activities and ensuring the business remains responsive to changing market conditions.

Fletcher brings more than 35 years of experience across the reinsurance and retrocession sectors, with expertise in developing customised reinsurance solutions and building long-standing relationships with clients and market participants globally.

Lucy Clarke, board member of Willis Re, said: “John is one of the most respected figures in the Bermuda reinsurance market, with a career defined by strong leadership, deep technical expertise and lasting client relationships. As we continue to invest in and expand our Bermuda operations, his leadership and strategic perspective will be key to supporting our long-term ambitions and enhancing our market presence.”

Fletcher added: “This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing business with clear objectives in one of the world’s most important reinsurance markets. Bermuda continues to play a critical role within the global industry, and I believe there is significant opportunity to further develop a differentiated proposition built around expertise, collaboration and lasting relationships. I look forward to working with the team to establish Willis Re as a trusted and differentiated force in the Bermuda reinsurance market.”
