Walkers boosts Bermuda risk advisory group with new hire
Walkers Bermuda has bolstered its regulatory and risk advisory practice by hiring international lawyer Leonie Tear.
Tear joins the firm from King & Wood Mallesons in Hong Kong, where she was counsel, and previously held the position of principal associate at Eversheds Sutherland.
Tear's expertise includes advising financial institutions and digital asset businesses on both contentious and non-contentious regulatory matters. Her extensive experience covers AML/CTF, sanctions, licensing, cybersecurity, and data privacy. She has represented clients under investigation by major global regulators, including the FCA, OFAC, HKMA, and SFC, and has assisted clients in managing the fallout from cyber-attacks and ransomware incidents.
She is currently on secondment in Cayman where she is training alongside Lucy Frew, partner and head of Walkers' regulatory & risk advisory group and will arrive in Bermuda in early July.
Kevin Taylor, office managing partner of Walkers Bermuda said: "We are thrilled to welcome Leonie and the experience she brings to Bermuda. Leonie's global experience and deep regulatory expertise will be invaluable as we continue to expand our regulatory offerings across the Americas."
Frew added: "At Walkers, we recognise the growing demand for regulatory expertise in the industry. Ensuring all our people are highly experienced specialist regulatory lawyers is paramount. Leonie's addition to our team reflects our commitment to providing top-tier regulatory advice to our clients."
Tear said: "I am excited to work with a team renowned for its dedication to regulatory law. The opportunity to assist clients in navigating Bermuda's regulatory infrastructure, supported by my global experience, is sincerely rewarding.
"It is incredibly important that regulatory work is done by those that live and breathe regulatory law on a daily basis, with a true understanding of how regulators operate and how to navigate complex but often principle-based laws, rules and requirements. Walkers recognises that, giving it a truly unique appeal. This coupled with the high calibre of work and clients made moving to Walkers Bermuda a natural choice."
