Three Bermuda law firms placed in Tier 1 for insurance

Three Bermuda law firms have been given Tier 1 status for their insurance reinsurance practices by the Legal 500 publication. 

Appleby, Conyers and Carey Olsen were all put in the top tier of the Legal 500 Caribbean rankings while Walkers, ASW Law and Kennedys were placed in Tier 2. 

“The ‘phenomenal’ insurance and reinsurance practice at Appleby is well-equipped to hand the establishment, regulatory compliance, and business operations of (re)insurance businesses, managers, and brokers,” the report said. “The practice is also experienced in insurance-related mergers, capital raising, and alternative risk transfer structures. 

“Practice head and managing partner Brad Adderley is praised as ’the best in the world at Bermuda reinsurance law’.”

Conyers was described as boasting “deep knowledge of Bermuda insurance and reinsurance” law regarding transactional and regulatory matters, handling matters for large commercial insurance companies and groups, as well as captives and special purpose insurers.

Carey Olsen “expertly handles both contentious and non-contentious insurance-related mandates”, the report said, adding:  “This offering includes corporate, finance, and regulatory advice on the formation and licensing of insurers, transactional matters, and restructuring and winding-up proceedings.”
