Hiscox sponsors UK-based African-Caribbean Insurance Network

Hiscox is sponsoring the African-Caribbean Insurance Network (ACIN) in the UK to support existing diversity efforts.

ACIN aims to boost black and minority ethnic representation in insurance through its work on industry-focused research, graduate recruitment, internships and work experience as well as networking and events.

Hiscox stressed its commitment to increasing racial diversity across the organisation, including improving representation at senior levels. Its partnership with ACIN, which focuses on community engagement, talent attraction and networking, is one of a range of practical measures it is taking to broaden its search for talent and reach a more diverse pool of candidates, it said. This includes candidates for its annual internship and graduate programmes.

Kate Markham, chief executive of Hiscox London Market and executive sponsor of diversity and inclusion at Hiscox, said: “Our sponsorship of ACIN represents part of a redoubling of our efforts to make insurance a career of choice for black and ethnic communities, and we’re proud to support the vital work the network is doing in this space.”

The re/insurer’s talent pool must reflect all sections of society fairly, Markham said. “Our business must enable everyone to have an equal opportunity to thrive.  We are committed to working together within Hiscox and with key partners to build something better for all.”

Junior Garba, co-founder of ACIN, said: “Hiscox has taken notable strides towards improving diversity and inclusion within their organisation, and their sponsorship of the ACIN will now help to reinforce racial inclusivity, not just in their organisation but also within the wider insurance market.”
