Axis names Moustafa Abdelrahman as assistant VP of renewable energy

Bermuda-based Axis Capital has appointed Moustafa Abdelrahman (pictured) as senior underwriter and assistant vice president for renewable energy in Toronto, boosting its specialty footprint in Canada.

Abdelrahman will support the growth of the Axis renewable energy portfolio with a focus on underwriting construction and operational property risks across a range of clean energy technologies including wind, solar, hydroelectric and battery storage.

He will report to Sam Walsh, head of North America renewable energy.

Abdelrahman brings both technical underwriting and renewable energy expertise, most recently serving as a senior analyst at Brookfield Renewable, where he focused on policy placement, acquisition due diligence, and claims review across a diverse renewable energy portfolio.

Prior to that, he held underwriting roles at Intact Insurance, where he specialised in renewable energy risks and contributed to the development of battery storage underwriting guidelines.

“Moustafa brings experience and strong credentials to our global energy team as we build out our offerings to customers in Canada, expanding our reach across North America,” Walsh said. “Having on-the-ground underwriting expertise is an exciting step forward for us as we lean into opportunities and rise to the challenges of a complex energy risk landscape.”
