BILTIR extends Bermuda life and annuity conference to three days in 2027

Bermuda International Long Term Insurers and Reinsurers (BILTIR) has announced plans to extend its annual Bermuda International Life & Annuity Conference to three days in 2027, following an event that attracted more than 750 industry executives, regulators and policymakers from 15 countries.

The 2026 Bermuda International Life & Annuity Conference took place at the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club, attracting attendees from 15 countries, with half travelling internationally. The programme included two new technical sessions focused on structured assets and artificial intelligence integration, alongside two Deal Rooms for private discussions.

BILTIR’s conference brought together regulatory representatives from Bermuda and the US, including Bermuda Monetary Authority chief executive officer Craig Swan and National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) president Scott White.

Swan joined BILTIR chief executive officer Suzanne Williams (pictured) to discuss Bermuda’s regulatory credibility and competitiveness. White delivered a special address examining how changes in investment strategies and technological innovation have reshaped the supervisory landscape.

General David H Petraeus, partner at KKR and former director of the Central Intelligence Agency, delivered the keynote address, examining shifts in global power dynamics and how new ideas can drive business growth. He also discussed Bermuda’s ability to evolve alongside the needs of the re/insurance industry.

Other sessions examined risk transformation, structured assets, private credit, artificial intelligence and the US-Bermuda value chain. Discussions also covered geopolitical and demographic changes affecting retirement and capital flows, Bermuda’s relationships with Asian markets, and factors influencing the location of re/insurance business.

Natasha Scotland Courcy, chair of BILTIR’s board of directors and chief executive officer and general counsel at Athene Life Re, said: “Millions of policyholders around the world are depending on us to deliver on promises that extend for decades, and aging populations are only increasing the need for long-term financial security. The discussions at the conference highlighted the scale of that responsibility and the opportunity ahead, while reinforcing the important role Bermuda can play in delivering greater financial security for generations to come.”

Williams said the event had also provided opportunities for industry participants to strengthen relationships and exchange ideas.

The 2026 conference was supported by Diamond Sponsors EY and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, and Platinum Sponsors Aegon and Athene.

The 2027 Bermuda International Life and Annuity Conference will take place from Monday, September 20, to Wednesday, September 22, extending the event to three days.
