Funds and ILS specialist joins Walkers Bermuda as partner

Walkers Bermuda has appointed Sarah Demerling as partner in the firm's corporate finance and funds group.

Demerling specialises in funds and investment services, insurance linked securities (ILS), regulatory compliance and mergers and acquisitions. She has advised US, Canadian and UK lawyers, along with investment managers, banks, insurers, reinsurers and principals on all aspects of Bermuda corporate law.

She joined Walkers on January 7, following serving as an independent director on a number of companies covering sectors including funds, oil and gas and captives.

"I have really enjoyed my role serving as an independent director for the last couple of years on a wide range of companies, primarily in the funds and insurance sector, however it is time to go back to my passion," Demerling said on LinkedIn post. "With all of the recent legislative changes in Bermuda (Fintech and EU substance) it is a very exciting time and I am looking forward to reconnecting with referrers and friends."

Demerling also served as as partner at Appleby Bermuda, a firm she has been with between 2001 and 2015.
