BILTIR hails its annual conference a success

The Bermuda International Long Term Insurers and Reinsurers (BILTIR) has hailed its 11th annual Bermuda International Life & Annuity Conference a success.

Held at Pier 6 in Hamilton, Bermuda, some 300 delegates attended the event, which featured a gathering of industry leaders providing insights on key issues within the industry, including: the economy, financial markets, geopolitics, pension benefits, post-covid mortality, and the convergence of asset management and life re/insurance.

Special invitees for the Regulatory panel were NAIC President elect, Commissioner Andrew Mais of the State of Connecticut Insurance Department and Commissioner Gary Anderson of the Massachusetts Division of Insurance. This was the first time that BILTIR has hosted onshore regulators at its annual conference.

Commissioners Mais and Anderson were joined on their panel by Martin Maringi, Deputy Director Insurance Supervision of the BMA, where they discussed the current regulatory climate impacting the long term reinsurance market and the strong ties between the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and the Bermuda Monetary Authority.

The conference keynote speaker was Jason Schenker, Chairman of The Futurist Institute and the President of Prestige Economics, who shared his views on the US economy, its outlook, and how it might impact some of the sector’s longer-term business considerations.

The conference was opened by Bermuda Premier and Minister of Finance the Hon. E. David Burt, JP, MP at the Welcome Reception hosted by Bacardi International and sponsored by Aon.

BILTIR executive director Christine Patton said: “We are so proud of the success of our 11th annual conference.  We were pleased to have facilitated key panel discussions on important topics impacting our market that attracted standing room attendance.  This event is a marquee event for BILTIR’s membership and more broadly the Bermuda long term sector and provided valuable networking and educational opportunities for all of our industry stakeholders.”

BILTIR represents 56 life re/insurers and 21 associate members in Bermuda who provide life and annuity products and employ more than 1,000 people on the island.
