Aspen names head of US primary casualty

Aspen Insurance has appointed Sean McPhillips as senior vice president (SVP), head of US primary casualty.

McPhillips will be based in New York and report to David Cohen, the president and chief underwriting officer of Aspen. The SVP will lead the planning, strategy and execution of the primary casualty operation throughout the US.

McPhillips has joined Aspen earlier this year as vice president, primary and excess casualty. Prior to Aspen, he has served as vice president and head of primary casualty for CapSpecialty.

During his employment there, he introduced the primary casualty department and developed underwriting guidelines, coverage forms, and a comprehensive distribution strategy.

Cohen said: “Sean is ideally qualified to lead our US primary casualty operation based on his expertise, strong relationships and thorough understanding of the market.”
