Ascot boosts marine team with hires from Navigators

Bermuda-based Ascot has boosted its US marine team with two new hires that will expand its geographic footprint on the West Coast.

Chris Johnson and Jocelyne Factor join as underwriters in its US marine team. Both will be based in the new San Francisco office.

Johnson, hired as a senior vice president, joins from Navigators where he was regional vice president responsible for the western region. With over 41 years in the industry he is one of the most experienced ocean marine insurance experts in the US.

Factor, hired as a vice president, also joins from Navigators where for 12 years she was involved in all ocean marine product lines and worked on developing regional business.

The team is also joined by its first claims hire, Laura Block, vice president, who will develop the US marine claims function from New York as the team gears up to start writing business, expected to be in Q1 2019.

Greg Wolyniec, CEO, Ascot Insurance US. said: “These hires follow our strategy of bringing in experienced underwriters who are leading figures in their class of business. The addition of our first West Coast presence will also help us to be in key locations to support our clients and brokers.”

Chris Piazza, head of US marine, added: “Chris and Jocelyne are hugely respected marine underwriters. Their addition to the team, as well as launching our claims function, means we’re in a position to start offering brokers a market leading marine proposition in 2019.”
