The US National Hurricane Center has warned of life-threatening conditions over the coming days along the eastern seaboard, Bermuda and Atlantic Canada.
Hurricane Erin is expected to produce life-threatening surf and rip currents. The center has advised beachgoers to follow advice from lifeguards, local authorities and beach warning flags.
According to the advisory: “Tropical storm conditions and coastal flooding are possible in the North Caroline Outer Banks beginning late Wednesday (August 20) or Wednesday night where tropical storm and storm surge watches are in effect.”
It warned people along the US mid-Atlantic and southern New England coasts, as well as Bermuda, should prepare for the possibility of strong winds Thursday and Friday (August 21 and 22).
Warnings of flash and urban flooding were included in the advisory for the Turks and Caicos and the Bahamas for tonight (August 19), as well as tropical storm warnings for the same territories.
Earlier this month the Tropical Storm Risk (TSR) outlook predicted a worsening 2025 hurricane season.
