SiriusPoint names Third Point Re veteran as its chief actuary

Specialty re/insurer SiriusPoint Ltd has appointed Justin Brenden as its new chief actuary, following  its merger completed earlier this year with Third Point Re, where he was chief reserving actuary.

Reporting to SiriusPoint chief financial officer David Junius, Brenden will be responsible for global reserving and aligning pricing to drive progress towards the company’s objective of improving underwriting profitability. The company’s second-quarter results showed profits for the three months fall to almost half compared the level of last year and its combined ratio fall to 92.8 percent.

Brenden joined Third Point Re in its first year of operations and played a significant role in the development of the company, according to SiriusPoint.

Junius said: “With extensive industry experience and strong professional credentials, Justin has a proven track record of actuarial leadership, supporting the business’s underwriting and finance strategies, and enhancing performance and thought leadership.

“[He] will be instrumental in advancing our efforts to build a highly effective and business-oriented actuarial function which will further efforts to position our business for sustainable underwriting profitability.”
