New executives appointed at Ironshore Bermuda

Ironshore has made two changes to its senior executives, with Steve Horton appointed as chief executive officer, Iron-Starr, and Susan Pateras appointed chief operating officer, Ironshore Bermuda.

In their new roles, both executives will continue to report to Mitch Blaser, chief executive officer of Ironshore Bermuda.

“Steve and Susan bring a wealth of experience to their respective new roles and have a proven track record of contribution to the success of Ironshore. I am delighted to promote such talent internally,” said Blaser.

Horton will be responsible for all aspects of Iron-Starr’s operations across its three core business lines, providing specialty excess insurance products. He will continue to serve as head of Iron-Excess, Ironshore’s newly announced initiative to expand into London and US markets. In addition, Liam Jones will be promoted to financial lines manager, reporting to Horton.

Pateras will now be responsible for business development on behalf of all Bermuda profit centres, driving strategic directives across the group, coordinating operational functions, as well as managing collaboration with broker partners and other key stakeholders for Ironshore Bermuda. She will remain head of Iron-Starr’s healthcare practice, overseeing ongoing initiatives and business development. Shane Rozario will assume a broader role in Bermuda as director of insurance and claims operations, reporting to Pateras.

The promotions are subject to Bermuda work permit approvals.

“Ironshore Bermuda operations continue to build out its platform for providing specialty market access to reliable capacity for the syndication of risk,” said Kevin H. Kelley, chief executive officer of Ironshore. “We congratulate Steve and Susan, both of whom have played pivotal roles in the expansion of dedicated business lines throughout their tenure with the company.”

Horton joined Ironshore’s Pembroke Managing Agency in 2008 from AIG, and was later named senior vice president of Iron-Starr in 2010, based in Bermuda. Pateras joined Iron-Starr Excess Agency in April 2013. She has more than 22 years’ in the Healthcare industry with experience in London, New York and Bermuda. Previously, she was senior vice president with Integro Bermuda and with Willis Bermuda.
