Bermuda’s emergency measures organisation is due to meet today to monitor the progress of Hurricane Lee, which is a potential threat to Bermuda.
The island’s national security minister, Michael Weeks, told residents on Friday: “Hurricane Lee is not to be taken lightly. It is a large and dangerous category 5 hurricane.”
Weeks acknowledged residents might be hurricane-weary after two hurricanes passed by the island in the last two weeks, but added: “Now is not the time to be complacent.”
Lee had weakened to a category 3 storm at 6am Atlantic Daylight Time today, but was projected become a category 4 storm again later today.
It is expected to weaken as it move north, and is currently projected to be a category 2 storm when it is forecast to pass Bermuda on Friday morning.
At 6am ADT, Lee was 650 miles south-southeast of Bermuda, moving northwest at 7mph. The storm was packing sustained winds of 120mph gusting to 150mph.
