BILTIR cancels life and annuity conference, could host webinars instead

Bermuda International Long Term Insurers and Reinsurers (BILTIR) has cancelled its 2020 Bermuda International Life & Annuity Conference, which had been scheduled for September 17.

BILTIR said it is looking at the possibility of holding one or more webinars to compensate for the lost opportunity to attain education credits for its attendees.

This year would have been the seventh year of the event, which focuses exclusively on Bermuda’s life and annuity industry.

BILTIR said it would hold the conference again in September 2021. “The conference planning committee has already begun the process of ensuring that the 2021 conference will be an event not to be missed,” it said.

Ronnie Klein, executive director of BILTIR, said: “While this was a very difficult decision for the board, I believe that it was the correct one.  Besides financial considerations, there is a lot of time and effort put into planning this event.  The board just did not see the justification for continuing both financial and time commitments.”

BILTIR represents 61 long-term insurance, reinsurance and servicing companies in Bermuda who provide life and annuity products and employ 540 people on the island.
