Sompo International targets Europe and Asia growth with new hires

Sompo International has added two veteran insurance executives in Europe and Asia as it continues to build its insurance operations.

Bermuda-based Sompo said it had appointed former managing director of Luxembourg-based Globality Health Cornelia Röskau to be chief executive officer of European subsidiary SI Insurance (Europe), which is also located in Luxembourg.

Sompo has also appointed former Berkshire Hathaway executive Emily Poh as head of professional lines insurance, Asia Pacific, based in Singapore.

Sompo said Röskau succeeds Thomas Brazil, who is relocating to Switzerland to take on a new role as head of strategic implementation, Continental Europe Insurance.

Ralph Brand, Sompo International’s president, Continental Europe insurance, said: “With two decades of international experience, Cornelia has extensive market knowledge, combined with a cutting-edge skillset and strong leadership qualities that will help drive our continued expansion in Continental Europe.

“Having lived and worked in multiple countries, she has a deep understanding of European jurisdictions, regulations and cultures which will translate well for the truly international scope of this position.”

Röskau has held senior leadership roles in Luxembourg, Germany and Austria,

Poh will be based in Singapore. She will report to Paul O’Neill, president of commercial lines, insurance, Asia Pacific.

Poh was head of executive and professional lines, Singapore, at Berkshire Hathaway. Before that, she held senior professional and financial lines roles at WTW and AIG in Singapore.
