Sompo appoints former AIG exec to head up new Tokyo office
Bermuda-based re/insurer Sompo International has appointed a formed AIG executive to head up its newly established office in Tokyo, Japan.
The company said the office will help “strengthen the strategic alignment between Sompo International and the other Sompo Group insurance companies”.
Kenneth Reilly will join as executive vice president, general manager, global business department, Sompo Holdings and executive vice president, head of the new Sompo International Tokyo office, effective July 1, 2022.
Reilly will report to both Mikio Okumura, chief operating officer of Sompo Holdings and James Shea, chairman and CEO of Sompo International.
Reilly has more than 25 years of international experience, majority of which was gained at AIG, most recently as CEO and president of AIG General Insurance. He has worked in New York, London, Hong Kong, Bermuda and Tokyo, and the company stressed his strong underwriting background in commercial and personal lines portfolios, as well as product development, local and global growth strategies, controls, and governance.
Shea said: "Establishing our new Sompo International office in Tokyo is a big step forward towards increasing collaboration and education amongst the employees of Sompo International and the Sompo Insurance companies in Japan.
