BILTIR confirms it will go ahead with its annual conference virtually

Bermuda International Long Term Insurers and Reinsurers (BILTIR) will hold its seventh annual International Life & Annuity Conference virtually for the first time.

Gaudenz Silberschmidt, a director at the World Health Organization (WHO), and Inga Beale, former chief executive officer of Lloyd's of London, are headline speakers for the half day event which will take place on 18 September, 2020.

Silberschmidt will discuss how WHO and the insurance industry can work together to mitigate the health and financial effects of future pandemics, while Beale will give her insights on how to effectively change organisations to become more diverse and inclusive.

The Bermuda Monetary Authority will also share insights about Bermuda’s Solvency II equivalence and being a National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) reciprocal jurisdiction, and its efforts to increase support for the growing long-term insurance and reinsurance sector on the island.

The decision to cancel the physical conference was taken in May due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ronnie Klein, executive director at BILTIR, said: “Bermuda has a well-earned reputation as a global centre of insurance innovation and we are delighted to be able to organise such a quality event in the middle of a global pandemic. This year’s conference could be the best ever, and attendees can enjoy it from the comfort of their home or office.”

BILTIR represents 62 long-term insurance, reinsurance and servicing companies in Bermuda who provide life and annuity products and employ 540 people on the island.
