
Bermuda braces for Tropical Storm Philippe
Bermuda is bracing for a direct hit from Tropical Storm Philippe with winds of 35 to 45 mph and high seas expected.
The Bermuda Weather Service said Philippe is expected to pass between 30 miles and directly over the island at 4pm Bermuda time.
Forecasters said a tropical storm warning is in effect and an extensive area of rain with embedded showers is expected in advance of it.
Gusts up to 60mph are also expected, with higher gusts in elevated or exposed areas, while there is a chance of thunderstorms.
Southeasterly to southerly swells are expected to peak during afternoon with seas inside the reef expected to be 2 to 4 feet high and outside the reef they are expected to between 9 and 12 feet.
By evening, winds are expected to weaken to 25 to 35mph but seas are expected to increase.
Bermuda public schools are going to be closed, but as of yesterday, Government offices were due to be open as was the Causeway. The Airport was due to be open, but travellers were advised to contact airlines to learn of any flight cancellations.
