Juniper Re expands operations to Bermuda
Juniper Re, the broking arm of BRP Group , is to establish a Bermuda office with the goal of expanding its footprint into the catastrophe reinsurance segment.
The broker, which has received in principle approval from the Bermuda Monetary Authority for its licence, said it has appointed former MS Amlin executive Chris Hayward as head of office.
“Juniper Re Bermuda will be licensed by the BMA as an insurance broker conditional upon satisfaction of certain conditions and our formal registration with the BMA,” BRP said.
“Bermuda is a leader in the reinsurance industry and the largest supplier of catastrophe reinsurance to US insurers. Establishing a presence in Bermuda rapidly expands our footprint and market access for the benefit of our current and future clients.
“As part of this vibrant, essential marketplace, we gain access to talent, capacity, and inventiveness critical to serving our clients and propelling our growth plans.”

The company said Hayward has more than 30 years’ experience in the industry.
“In his most recent role as chief underwriting officer of the Bermuda branch of MS Amlin AG, he played a crucial role in designing and delivering underwriting strategies, driving change, and improving profitability of the underwriting book.
“In assuming the position as head of office for Juniper Re Bermuda, Chris returns to the broking discipline where he began his career.”
Hayward also worked for Willis Re for 25 years, where he was executive vice president in the Bermuda office before joining MS Amlin in 2015.

Juniper Re was formed in October 2023 as the broking arm of BRP Group, a Tampa, Florida-based insurance distribution group.
