Fidelis teams up with BFIS

The re/insurer sent a former scholar to the NYSE NextGen Bootcamp.

Fidelis Insurance Group partnered with the Bermuda Foundation for Insurance Studies to sponsor a student to attend the 2024 New York Stock Exchange NextGen Bootcamp, which is designed to give university students a deeper understanding of financial markets.

The company, which has a community goal of developing future leaders, paid for the student to attend the conference and to spend time in the company’s Bermuda and US offices.

One of Fidelis Insurance Group’s community goals is to nurture future leaders, and the company was able to partner with the Bermuda foundation for Insurance Studies to attend the 2024 NYSE NextGen Bootcamp.

“This immersive two-day programme, which was held in New York in July, 2024 and organised by the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), was designed to provide university students with a deeper understanding of financial markets,”  said Miranda Hunter (pictured), head of investor relations at Fidelis.

“Participants enjoyed a hands-on experience including a visit to the NYSE Trading Floor, interaction with Designated Market Makers (DMMs), and a chance to witness the NYSE Bell.”

She added: “The programme equipped attendees with knowledge in areas such as capital markets, stocks and bonds, exchange-traded funds, futures, options and clearing, marketing, social media, advertising, mortgage, technology, and the history of the NYSE.”

Hunter said the student was also able to visit Fidelis’ head office in Bermuda to meet with executives including Bermuda chief executive officer and group chief financial officer, Allan Decleir.

“This initiative underscores our commitment to investing in local talent and addressing the existing gap in access to opportunities,” Hunter added. “As a business, we prioritise not only our financial performance but also our responsibility to contribute positively to society and support the development of future leaders.

“Participation in the NYSE programme provided participants with valuable insights into finance and trading, equipping them with skills and knowledge that will enhance their career trajectories as they advance in their professional paths.”

Hunter said the project had benefited Fidelis as well as the student.

“Supporting the NYSE NextGen Bootcamp aligned with our aim of fostering future leaders in Bermuda,” she said. “By making this opportunity available to a local candidate, we were proud to not only support their personal and professional growth but also reinforce our commitment to community engagement.

“The experience energised our team and underscored the importance of investing in local talent.

“Witnessing the student’s enthusiasm and growth from this opportunity further motivates us to seek out initiatives that make a positive impact, aligning our corporate values with our community's needs.”
