Bermuda Captive Conference opens next week
About 400 delegates are expected to attend next week's Bermuda Captive Conference as the event celebrates its 20th anniversary.
Organiser the Bermuda Captive Network said the event, themed "Navigating Captive Horizons", features a range of talks and panel discussions and will also make a lifetime achievement award to an industry leader.
The event takes place on September 9 and 10 at Pier Six in Hamilton.
The 2024 conference features a comprehensive agenda filled with keynote presentations, panel discussions, and interactive sessions that explore the latest trends, challenges, and innovations in the captive insurance industry.
"Each session has been thoughtfully crafted to address the most pressing topics in the captive industry, with a strong focus on innovative strategies and the robust regulatory framework that Bermuda offers to captives globally," a statement said.
Sessions include:
Conference Welcome and Keynote Address: The event will kick off with a welcome from Bermuda Captive Conference Chair Thomas McMahon, joined by Jason Hayward, Minister of Economy and Labour, who will discuss Bermuda’s economic development and outlook for the future.
Setting the Standard in Jurisdictional Excellence: These sessions will showcase Bermuda’s leadership in jurisdictional excellence, regulatory transparency, and innovation, with insights from top industry experts and includes a series of Bermuda Shorts, TED-style talks that provide quick, focused insights on data privacy, beneficial ownership disclosures, and regulatory updates that impact captives and the broader Bermuda regulatory landscape.
Captive Wealth: Investment Management Strategies for Sustainable Growth: A session that focuses on approaches to achieving long-term stability and growth, considering factors such as interest rates, diversification, risk management, and strategic asset allocation.
Benefits of Risk-Pooling & MGAs: These sessions discuss the evolution of risk pooling and how it can optimise a captive’s effectiveness with practical examples and expert insights, as well as how MGAs leverage the latest technologies and best practices to optimise operations within the captive insurance landscape.
Maximising Your Captive’s Value & Parametric Innovations: Highlighting the importance of strategic planning and how collaboration between service providers and risk managers can enhance the long-term success of captives, as well as another series of Bermuda Shorts that offer perspectives on how parametric solutions can address coverage gaps, support underserved markets, and manage geopolitical risks.
(Re)insurance Markets: Navigating Capacity, Rates, and Beyond: A highly anticipated session that maps the latest trends in the (re)insurance market, including capacity adjustments and rate changes, and their implications for captive owners.
Fiscal Horizons: Exploring the Effect of Corporate Income Tax in Bermuda: A must-see discussion that provides insights into Bermuda’s upcoming Corporate Income Tax and its impact on the captive insurance market, with guidance on steps captives need to take.
Market Expansion in Latam, Healthcare Risk and the Growing Attraction of Mutuals: These sessions explore the growing role of Latin America in Bermuda’s captive market, market trends and strategies for captives in the healthcare sector and the unique benefits of Bermuda’s mutual captives, their capital structure, and their relevance in today’s market.
MacroEconomist View: How Global Events Shape Captive Strategies: The session finale comes in the form of a discussion from global economic experts, as they provide insights on how world economic trends impact captive insurance strategies and how organisations can adapt to optimise risk management and financial planning.
At the opening of the event on September 9, the Bermuda Captive Conference will announce this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award, presented to honour an outstanding leader whose career has greatly advanced the industry and its global reputation.
Alongside this, the Bermuda Captive Network will recognize the inductees for the 2024 Captive Hall of Fame, which recognises locally domiciled captives who have been active in Bermuda for 25 years. This year’s inductees include: Bread Reinsurance Ltd., Sedgwick Bermuda AGI (SAC) Limited, S&S Reinsurance Ltd., Bluewell Reinsurance Company (Bermuda) Ltd., Palo Verde Insurance Company Ltd., Norfolk Reinsurance Company Ltd., Flagstaff Insurance Company Ltd., EmPRO International Limited, Evergreen Insurance Company Limited, WYNDHAM Insurance Company (SAC), Artex Axcell PIC Ltd., Potomac National Security Reinsurance Ltd., Noah Insurance Company Ltd., Capstone Insurance Company Ltd.
