Bermuda-based global specialty re/insurer SiriusPoint has hired a Brighthouse Financial managing director and investment management specialist as its new chief investment officer (CIO), effective 2 December 2025.
Based in New York, Maria Tarhanidis (pictured) will join the senior leadership team and will report to Jim McKinney, chief financial officer.
In her role, she will be responsible for overseeing strategic asset allocation, investment performance, and portfolio risk management across SiriusPoint and its direct subsidiaries. She will lead the development and execution of investment strategies that align with the re/insurer’s corporate objectives and enhance overall long-term profitability.
Tarhanidis brings more than 25 years of investment leadership experience to the role, most recently serving as managing director, head of alternative investments, at Brighthouse Financial. There, she was a senior member of the investment team and led initiatives across private equity, private credit, and real estate equity.
She has held senior roles at MetLife, General Motors Asset Management, and Deutsche Bank. She serves as an AIF advisory board member, is a founding member of Women in Private Credit, and is a member of the Insurance Women’s Investment Network.
