SiriusPoint appoints Aspinall to lead new fine art and specie business

SiriusPoint has launched a fine art and specie underwriting business, appointing former Liberty Specialty Markets executive Mark Aspinall (pictured) as head of fine art and specie as it continues to expand its London Market specialty platform.

He will report to global head of marine Chris Fenn and will be responsible for establishing the new underwriting team and building a portfolio focused on high-value asset risks, including fine art institutions, galleries, private collections, luxury retailers, auction houses and secure transportation providers.

Aspinall brings more than 35 years of experience in the Lloyd’s and London insurance markets, specialising in fine art, specie and high-value risks. He joins from Liberty Specialty Markets, where he most recently served as senior underwriter, fine art and specie. He previously held senior underwriting roles at Travelers Syndicate 5000.

SiriusPoint said the appointment follows the recent hires of Ed Winter and Paul Beattie to lead its crisis solutions offering, alongside crisis solutions underwriter Ella Stevenson, as it continues to build targeted specialty capabilities.

David Govrin, group president and chief executive officer of global reinsurance and London Market specialty at SiriusPoint, said: “Adding Mark to the team reflects our continued focus on building out targeted specialty capabilities where we see clear opportunities for well-priced business and profitable growth. Mark’s deep technical expertise and strong broker relationships will be critical as we establish a scalable fine art & specie offering within our specialty platform, which complements adjacent Marine classes like cargo and war, political violence and terrorism.”
