Rising Star: Christine Luck
Christine Luck began her career at KPMG through their scholarship and co-op programme while studying accounting at university. She joined KPMG full-time upon graduation, where she obtained her Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation. While working in KPMG’s audit practice, Luck specialised in investment fund and reinsurance clients.
In 2018, she moved to Third Point Re as a reinsurance accountant, deepening her experience in the reinsurance sector. Following the company’s merger with Sirius Group in 2021, Luck assumed a larger role, which led her to her current position as VP, North America reinsurance controller at SiriusPoint. She manages the reinsurance accounting and controls for Bermuda and US entities and coordinates SiriusPoint’s quarterly underwriting financial close.
Can you start by telling us what inspired your career?
Growing up in Bermuda, I recognised the wealth of career opportunities available to qualified accountants early on. Obtaining a professional designation after university was a priority, and earning my CPA felt like a natural step toward building a meaningful career. Working on the audits of reinsurance companies sparked my interest in this sector and ultimately led me to pursue a career in it.
What elements of your career do you enjoy most and why?
What I enjoy most is the people that I get to work with. I am fortunate that my role allows me to collaborate with team members across our finance, actuarial and underwriting functions. I have learned from talented colleagues who are not only committed to delivering value to the company but also foster a supportive environment and are fun to work with.
Can you share an example of a challenge you overcame that significantly shaped your career trajectory?
In 2021, Third Point Re merged with Sirius Group – a much larger and more complex organisation than I’d previously experienced. The integration period was a steep learning curve, requiring me to quickly understand its business, systems and processes. While challenging, it accelerated my professional growth and created an opportunity for me to take on a larger role following the merger.
What are your career ambitions? And how will you work to achieve them?
Looking ahead, I am excited to continue growing as a leader – taking on new challenges, mentoring others and contributing to the success of a dynamic, forward-thinking organisation.
How do you stay motivated and continue to learn in such a dynamic sector?
The reinsurance and insurance industry is incredibly dynamic, and I am constantly learning – whether it is navigating new business transactions or contributing to SiriusPoint’s finance transformation projects. I have found there are always opportunities to learn, and it is essential to stay aligned with evolving business needs. While I have always been self-motivated, I now find even greater inspiration in the success of my team.
