Rising Star: Adam Horridge
Adam Horridge is a re/insurance professional with more than 12 years of experience spanning London, Hong Kong, Singapore and Bermuda.
As director at Teneo, he advises clients across the insurance and reinsurance industry on strategic change, from building new structures to winding down portfolios, with a particular focus on legacy solutions that help carriers exit or trapped capital release.
Before joining Teneo, Horridge worked for Swiss Re, most recently as VP of legacy transactions. During that time he also served as a board member of the Insurance and Reinsurance Legacy Association (IRLA), representing the APAC region. He is a chartered financial analyst (CFA) charterholder.
Can you start by telling us what inspired your career?
I began at Swiss Re, an organisation renowned for developing its people, particularly through its graduate programme. That commitment to nurturing internal talent was inspiring and set the tone for how I wanted to grow professionally.
Reinsurance was a sector I initially knew little about. As I explored it during my graduate applications, I became increasingly fascinated by its complexities and global relevance, not to mention its role in underpinning the stability of entire economies. That intellectual curiosity quickly turned into a genuine passion for the industry.
What elements of your career do you enjoy most and why?
Finding win-win outcomes, whether working through a transaction, building something new or winding something down efficiently and fairly. Every strategic change or transaction blends quantitative analysis with human dynamics, and navigating that balance is what makes the work so engaging.
I’ve also been fortunate to work with great mentors who have shaped my approach to doing business.
Can you share an example of a challenge you overcame that significantly shaped your career trajectory?
I’ve relocated internationally several times; each move brought unique challenges but also tremendous growth.
The experience reinforced just how globally connected the reinsurance industry is. Having lived in the UK, Asia and now Bermuda, I’ve often reconnected with former colleagues across continents which highlights the strength of relationships built within the industry.
What are your career ambitions? And how will you work to achieve them?
I tend to plan a few years ahead and focus on what I can learn and who I can learn from.
Building on a knowledge base of structured reinsurance and run-off transactions in particular, I’m now deepening that focus at Teneo, where I’m fortunate to work alongside a highly experienced and collaborative team.
How do you stay motivated and continue to learn in such a dynamic sector?
Motivation comes from the same factors that drew me to the industry: the constant learning curve, the opportunity to create win-win outcomes with people and the global nature of the work. There’s always something new to master, which makes the journey continually rewarding.
