Vantage Group bolsters modelling expertise with research hire

Bermuda-headquartered specialty re/insurer Vantage Group Holdings has hired Steve Smith as its new research and development head.

Specializing in property catastrophe reinsurance modelling and analysis, Smith joins from QOMPLX. There, he led its insurance development team developing, marketing and delivering its analytical tools for re/insurance underwriters and intermediaries.

With over 20 years’ experience in the industry, he has also worked at a number of reinsurance brokers leading catastrophe modelling and analytics teams, including Beach * Associates, TigerRisk Partners and Willis Re. He began his career in insurance with ACE Tempest Re, as director of research and development, after switching from asset management.

Vantage Group Holdings and its wholly-owned re/insurance subsidiary, Vantage Risk,  commenced operations in December last year under the leadership of former AXA XL chief executive Greg Hendrick, who serves as chief executive. It aims to underwrite risk where existing capacity is shrinking with a focus on tech-enabled efficiency and robust analytics.
