More details for BDA Bermuda Risk Summit

The Bermuda Development Agency has confirmed more speakers and sessions for its Bermuda Risk Summit, taking place from 14-16 March 2022, and the first major in-person industry event since 2019.

According to the BDA, John Huff, president & CEO of event sponsor the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers (ABIR) will moderate a regulatory perspective panel featuring Gerald Gakundi, director, supervision (insurance) at the Bermuda Monetary Authority and Elizabeth Dwyer, superintendent for banking & insurance at the Rhode Island Department of Business Regulation.

Suzanne Williams-Charles, ABIR director of policy & regulation, meanwhile, will moderate a rating agencies panel featuring AM Best senior director of criteria Mahesh Mistry, and Peter Giacone, managing director and global head of the insurance ratings team at KBRA.

Chris Maiato, partner at EY, another sponsor, will moderate a panel on the “Rise of Innovative InsurTech’ with Prashanth Gangu, SiriusPoint chief operating officer and president of insurance & services. Craig Redcliffe, partner of EY Bermuda will be on “The Future of ESG in ILS” panel.

Finally, leaders from Marsh, Willis Towers Watson, law firm Walkers, and KPMG will be among the speakers on a captives panel entitled “Standing the Test of Time – Bermuda Captive Sector: 60 Years Strong.” Christopher Schaper, CEO of AIG RE, is also confirmed to speak.

Other speakers already announced for the summit include Christopher Schaper, chief executive officer of AIG RE; Leslie Robinson, SVP and head of underwriting & claims at Willis Towers Watson, and Bermuda’s premier, The Hon David E Burt, JP, MP.

The BDA has welcomed changes announced by the island’s government to arrival protocols taking effect a week before the event begins on March 14. Visitors with up-to-date COVID vaccinations will require just a supervised antigen pre-departure test within two days of departure, with no further testing on arrival in Bermuda.

I am also pleased to announce that the Risk Summit will receive support from Florida, one of Bermuda’s largest trading partners, in the form of the Florida Insurance Council, who, in addition to its president, Cecil Pearce coming to speak on our Florida legislative update panel, is co-sponsoring a networking breakfast with Meenan PA.”
