Fidelis eyes growth in reinsurance partnerships with appointment

Fidelis has appointed John Symms as head of outwards reinsurance to support the growth of its reinsurance partnerships and the increasingly important quota share relationships across multiple lines of business.

Symms works alongside Phil Vandoninck in his role as CEO of Socium, Fidelis’s sponsored collateralised special purpose insurer, and with Fidelis’s underwriting, actuarial and analytics teams. He coordinates all aspects of engagement with reinsurers across all segments of the business.

Fidelis has many reinsurance partners, across over 20 classes of business, requiring it focus its resources on “the entire outwards process, from broker and counterparty selection to placement and reporting,” said Vandoninck.

Richard Brindle,  chairman and group chief executive officer of Fidelis, emphasised the importance of reinsurance relationships to the business, describing the appointment as a demonstration of its commitment to providing quality and transparency to its partners.

Symms said outwards reinsurance relationships are of paramount importance to Fidelis, and will drive its growth. “Fidelis devotes extensive resources to provide cutting edge tools for outwards analysis and reporting and I’m looking forward to utilising the tools to provide market leading information to our partners,” he said.
