Endurance launches new US commercial property unit

Endurance has announced that Mark Maritzen has joined the company as executive vice president and to head up the new commercial property unit within its US insurance operation.

With almost twenty years of experience in the insurance industry in both underwriting and broker roles, Maritzen will be responsible for building and leading a new property team with a focus on retail distribution channels.

He is joined by Sharon Herbert, vice president of commercial property, who also has twenty years of experience in this market.

Maritzen is based in Endurance's New York City office, reporting to Doug Worman, CEO of US insurance, with a secondary reporting line to Richard Housley, global insurance property leader.

Maritzen joins Endurance from Tokio Marine Global where he was senior vice president, head of US property. Prior to that, he held a series of management positions at Guy Carpenter in New York from 2005 through 2011, culminating in the role of managing director, head of Guy Carpenter Broking Inc. Maritzen started his career at Gerling Insurance and then served as a property broker at Marsh from 1998 through 2005.

Worman comments: "Mark's extensive experience in the US property market and his wide network across the broker community will be critical as he and his team quickly build Endurance's presence in this market. This new property unit complements our existing US wholesale portfolio and is a significant step in the expansion of our integrated global property capabilities."
