BMS boosts its capital advisory team

Specialist re/insurance broker BMS has bolstered its capital solutions advisory practice by hiring PwC partner James Ferris as director of capital and risk advisory in Bermuda. At the same time, Chris Harding joins from Athora UK, working in the same position in London.

Ferris has over two decades’ experience with the re/insurance market working for PwC. As a partner, he was Bermuda advisory leader. He is also a vice-chair of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants’ chapter on the island.

Harding has over 17 years’ experience in and around the insurance industry. He was previously head of corporate finance and treasury at Athora UK Services, responsible for capital optimisation and financing.

In the US, BMS has been providing capital advisory services since 2014 and recently announced a restructuring of its business, with Steve Korducki as CEO of capital advisory as well as chairman. Managing directors Bruce Murdock and Alex Orloff now manage the banking and research solutions responsibilities, reporting to him.

Nick Cook, CEO of BMS, said: “Our capital market presence complements the reinsurance intermediary services offered by BMS Re and provides our clients with access to financing and risk transfer solutions. At BMS, we recognise that we operate at the intersection of capital and risk and are fortunate to have proven industry professionals leading our capital advisory and legacy solutions.

“These appointments mark a serious broadening of our global footprint for our capital solutions units and enables BMS to provide a holistic approach to balance sheet management and capital optimisation.”
