Bermuda Insurance Institute to hold seminars for young re/insurance professionals

The Bermuda Insurance Institute (BII) has introduced a number of induction seminars aimed at helping young professionals gain a better understanding of the re/insurance industry in Bermuda.

BII’s courses covera range of topics including the history of the Bermuda markets, captives, reinsurance, lines of business, underwriting, broking and life insurance. This year, there are new presentations on claims and insurance-linked securities (ILS).

The courses are aimed at junior level employees of insurance and reinsurance companies as well as those from companies involved with the industry such as recruiters, lawyers, accountants, bankers and IT professionals.

They will be held on April 23, 25, and 30, along with May 2, taking place at AXA XL on Bermudiana Road.

“The Bermuda Insurance Institute provides educational opportunities for those working in the insurance industry in Bermuda and this induction seminar is seen as a highlight of the educational calendar providing younger professionals and those with less experience a great insight into the different parts that make up our industry,” said Victoria Cunningham, who has been teaching the course since 2010.

Alanah Bacon, underwriter, professional ;ines at Sompo International, who attended the seminars when she was starting out in the industry and said: “The BII was an amazing resource when I started. I highly recommend these seminars, which present an essential overview of the Bermuda market, the different lines of business and range of insurance products offered on the Island.”
