Mosaic launches talent programme to build political risk expertise

Mosaic has launched a talent development programme connecting University of Cambridge students with Lloyd’s market leaders as it seeks to build a pipeline of future political risk insurance specialists.

The initiative began with a day-long forum at Lloyd’s, sponsored by Mosaic, which brought together political risk executives from the broking and underwriting markets with postgraduate students from the University of Cambridge. The event focused on career opportunities in political risk insurance, the Lloyd’s market and the application of geopolitical expertise within the sector.

Mosaic said the programme is intended to create a pipeline of future political risk specialists through engagement with students and industry leaders. As the initiative develops, it plans to introduce mentorship opportunities, job shadowing, internships, graduate placements and a wider professional network.

Participants included 29 master’s and doctoral students from the Centre for Risk Studies at the University of Cambridge, alongside faculty members and representatives from the London insurance market.

Mark Wheeler (pictured), co-chief executive officer of Mosaic, said: “Our aim is to create a light-touch, high-quality pathway that demystifies political risk and helps young talent understand our insurance market—while enabling the sector to identify, develop, and support future specialists. We hope to build a cross-market network that connects talented graduates with rising demand in an increasingly relevant line of business.”

Sir Charles Roxburgh, chair of Lloyd's, added: “It’s a fantastic opportunity to bring together leaders from the world of insurance with students to talk about one of the most innovative areas in risk today.

Political risk lies at the heart of some of the most important challenges facing businesses and communities around the world—and insurance plays a critical role by enabling companies to invest with more confidence, facilitating trade, and helping communities become more resilient.

“The forum aligns with a broader Lloyd’s ambition. As part of our new strategy at Lloyd’s, we have refocused our efforts to attract talent to the London market, including a commitment to double our intake of young professionals to help build rewarding careers in the industry. We’re excited by initiatives like this that contribute to that goal.”
