The search has resumed for the six people missing from a yacht which sank off the coast of Sicily early on Monday.
Among the missing are Jonathan Bloomer, the chairman of Bermuda-based re/insurer Hiscox, and his wife Judy. Others missing are software entrepreneur Mike Lynch and his daughter Hannah and Clifford Chance lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife Neda.
Rescue teams have struggled to get into the yacht, which sank after apparently being hit by waterspout and lies in 150 feet of water. Divers can only spend 10 minutes trying to gain entry before having to resurface.
Aki Hussain, Hiscox Group CEO, said: “We are deeply shocked and saddened by this tragic event. Our thoughts are with all those affected, in particular our Chair, Jonathan Bloomer, and his wife Judy, who are among the missing, and with their family as they await further news from this terrible situation.”
The BBC reported that the couple's vicar had expressed shock that the couple, who regularly attended church in the village of Knockholt, Kent, were among the missing.
The couple are well known in the village and to other churchgoers, Reverend Tim Edwards told BBC South East.
He said: "I'm not going to say much about how the rest of the family feel - but I think they'd say similar to what I'd say now about that sense of shock.
"This is really impossible news to take onboard."
