QBE Re appoints Tracey Gibbons to lead strategic development

Tracey Gibbons (pictured) has been appointed as QBE Re’s new global head of strategic development, following her tenure as head of the Bermuda operation since 2021.

The Bermuda-based executive said she was “very honoured” to take on the new role. She has been succeeded in Bermuda by the head of global property.

“A big thank you to the wonderful teams that I work with at QBE Re,” Gibbons said in a LinkedIn post. “I look forward to our continued success and seeing all the wonderful things we can achieve when we work together.”

Gibbons was previously executive vice president, underwriting at SiriusPoint Re (previously Third Point Re) from 2019 to 2021. She previously spent 16 years at Allied World Assurance, where she rose to the role of SVP, specialty reinsurance and built a number of teams in different specialty lines.

She was also a long time board member of Women in Reinsurance (WiRe) and a member of the Bermuda:Re+ILS editorial board.

She has been succeeded as head of QBE Re Bermuda by Andy Richardson, who continues in his previous role as global head of property for the reinsurer.

Richardson joined QBE Re in 2023 in that role and was previously a portfolio manager at Aeolus from 2021 to 2023. Prior to that he was head of property treaty, Bermuda at Lancashire Insurance Group from 2015 to 2023.

In December, QBE said two of its Bermuda subsidiaries, QBE Capital and QBE Capital (Global) had been granted Class 4 insurer licences by the Bermuda Monetary Authority, which would enable  QBE Re to underwrite directly onto their balance sheets.
